Ray-traced reflections quickly catch your eye in the skyscraper-filled city of Marvel’s New York as you swing along its many glass surfaces. On PS5 in 2023, Spider-Man 2 at least served as an impressive technical showcase for the hardware, and a blockbuster release in a relatively quiet release schedule. On PC in 2025, without those advantages and in a disappointingly shaky state, it’s much more difficult to recommend. The majority of the side activities wind up feeling both mechanically and narratively pointless. An electric bike race feels silly enough in a Spider-Man game, but when the stakes are just “I need someone to try out my electric bike”, it’s hard not to think Miles and Peter have more pressing stuff to be getting on with. Far too much of what you’re doing feels like padding from the early days of open world games—there’s more inspiration here from Crackdown than there is from GTA V.

Following the conclusions of their respective solo adventures they’re now a tight-knit crime-fighting duo, but both are predictably still struggling to juggle their superhero callings with their personal responsibilities. It’s hard not to feel, though, that Peter’s inability to hold down a job or progress his relationship with MJ feels a little higher stakes than Miles… procrastinating over his college application? It was nominated for numerous end-of-year accolades, and won in six categories at the 27th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards, including Action Game of the Year. The game sold over 2.5 million units in 24 hours and over five million in 11 days, becoming PlayStation’s fastest selling first-party title.
For it to count you have to activate these abilities DURING a Symbiote Surge (after the yellow bar in top right is fully charged and you pressed + to activate it). If you use these abilities without enabling Symbiote Charge it won’t count. 4 of them are automatically unlocked from story progress (unmissable) and 2 are bought from Peter’s skill tree. While the Symbiote Surge is active you have to trigger Symbiote Abilities a total of 25 times. Equip 4 of these abilities and make sure they are all charged and ready before activating the Surge. Then you can spam all 4 abilities in quick succession before the Surge ends.
You’ll watch them navigate their intersecting civilian lives while teaming up to protect the city. In the 2018 PlayStation 4 game, Peter fought off members of the Sinister Six while juggling his relationship with Mary Jane. The story crescendoed with the death of Aunt May at the hands of Otto Octavius. Miles Morales lost his father in the events of that game, but later headlined a smaller follow-up title, where he saved the city from the corrupt tech corporation Roxxon Energy.
Racing Games You Cannot Miss
Without warning, in seemingly undemanding scenes and without any preceding slowdown, the game simply gives up, citing only nonsensical display driver issues. So far it’s happened about once every 30 minutes, seeming to be more frequent during story missions. Peter reunites with Harry and Mary Jane and attempts to return the suit to Harry, but it refuses to leave him; the three figure they need Connors’ help. While investigating Kraven, Peter discovers that Kraven is dying of cancer and is looking for someone who can give him a “warrior’s death” in combat. Peter manages to retrieve the serum from Kraven, who discovers the exosuit’s weakness to loud noises. After Peter and Harry synthesize an antidote for Connors, Peter locates him with Miles’ help and eventually defeats and cures him.
The part that feels like it actually needed a radical rethinking is the open world of New York City, which has been made bigger but not better, with an exhausting checklist of mostly repetitious side activities. But it’s safe to call this another thrilling Spider-Man adventure that delivers Insomniac’s best tale yet, and despite its open world falling short, it’s a reliably fun superhero power trip. Spider-Men Peter Parker and Miles Morales face the ultimate test of strength inside and outside the mask as they fight to save the city, each other and the ones they love, from the monstrous Venom and the dangerous new symbiote threat. Explore an expansive Marvel’s New York with faster web-swinging and the all-new Web Wings, quickly switching between Peter and Miles to experience different stories, epic new abilities and high-tech gear.
Harry reveals that, on his father Norman Osborn’s insistence, he was cured by Curt Connors via a powerful organic exosuit that physically augments his body. With the exosuit’s powers rapidly developing, Harry helps Peter rescue Tombstone while Mary Jane discovers that Kraven has kidnapped Connors. The trio attempt to save Connors, but Kraven forcibly turns him back into the Lizard, steals the serum needed to transform him back and mortally wounds Peter. Before Peter can die, the exosuit transfers itself from Harry to Peter’s body, saving him.
Here’s what you need to do to play Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on AMD RX 580. There will be no shortage of games to play in January, but don’t count on any spectacular launches. Accompanying the highly anticipated sequel at launch, Sony has confirmed Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will have its own custom PS5 bundle along with a unique DualSense controller design to boot. During the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase, Insomniac Games revealed some gameplay of the upcoming title, which you can see above. The popular anti-hero may serve as a villain, a not-so-friendly ally in a greater battle, or perhaps even a mix of both throughout the game.
